LOCATION

 

Villajoyosa is also known as La Vila Joiosa in the local Valenciano language. You'll see both names on the road signs. Most local people call it La Vila for short. It's just 40 minutes drive from Alicante airport.

How to get here

From Alicante airport:

 

By car:

  • 40 minutes (45 km).

  • Take the A-70, direction Valencia. Motorway tolls on this section have been abolished, so stay on the autopista all the way to La Vila for free.  Take exit 66, marked 'Villajoyosa/ La Vila Joiosa.

 

By public transport:

  • Bus no. 06 runs from just outside Departures. It takes 30 minutes to get to the stop 'Luceros'.

  • At 'Luceros', take the Tram from the underground station in the direction of Benidorm, getting off at  'Costera Pastor', the second stop after 'La Vila Joiosa' station. The journey along the picturesque Costa Blanca takes about an hour.

  • The apartment is a 10 minute walk from the Tram stop

 

Airport shuttle:

  • Beniconnect runs a minibus pickup service to and from Alicante airport to drop off points in La Vila.

From Alicante rail station:

Alicante rail station has high speed AVE services to Madrid (2.5 hours) and trains to major cities all over Spain. Valéncia is approx two hours away, Murcia just over an hour.

By car:
  • There are car hire facilities at Alicante station. Once you've picked up your car, turn right down the hill along Avenida de Salamanca, go straight on over the roundabout and take the fourth turning left into Calle Eusebio Sempere. That will take you down onto the main N-332 seafront road, past the spectacular marina and out of town towards Valéncia.  Villajoyosa is a 35 minute drive.

By public transport:

  • It's a 5 minute walk from Alicante station to Plaza de los Luceros where you can pick up a tram to La Vila. Walk down the station front steps, cross the main road and head along Avenida de la Estación until you reach the square with the palm trees and the fountain. Take a Benidorm-bound tram from the underground station and get off at Costera Pastor station in Villajoyosa. Link to tram timetables here

Local amenities

  • 3 minutes walk to the beach. Platform with summer facilities for wheelchair users (toilets & awning) at the port end of the beach, plus 4 disabled parking spaces nearby. Unfortunately, there is no step-free access from our apartment to the beach, but there is step-free access to our pool.

  • Plenty of good places to eat in the marina and seafront. Spanish (of course) but also pizza & pasta, Indian and more. See my blog here for suggestions.

  • Nearest supermarket (Spar) five minutes walk away. Also open Sunday mornings.

  • Daily local market 15 minutes walk (Monday - Saturday)
